The Herring Choker is conveniently located 13 km west of Baddeck on the Trans-Canada Highway. It’s the perfect stop on your way to or from the Cabot Trail and Newfoundland Ferry terminal. Situated on the shores of the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake, enjoy our patio and bright cafe overlooking the lake – or take your order to go!

Cafe
The Herring Choker Cafe offers a great food and beverage menu. We serve Just Us fair trade organic coffee, cappucino & lattes and offer an assortment of herbal teas and cold drinks. Our sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and baked goods are all made fresh daily in-house for you to enjoy. We have ample seating in our dining area and outdoor patio and are very family friendly. We are proud to carry great local products in the cafe, including local food, music, art, skincare products, and more. Free wi-fi is available! Eat-in or take it to go.

Deli
The Herring Choker Deli is stocked with a fine selection of local and imported cheese and deli meats, including smoked salmon, mackerel, roast beef and smoked beef.

Bakery
There is always something delightful coming out of the bakery at the Herring Choker! Our fresh bread is a must. We regularly bake white, multi-grain, oatmeal, rye, raisin bread and Big Spruce beer bread. Scones and biscuits are another favourite, coming in a satisfying range of flavours such as cheddar and chive, maple pecan and apple cinnamon. For that sweet tooth, you will be delighted by our changing variety of cookies, bars, cupcakes, and cakes that will surely satisfy your craving! We bake gluten-free and vegan options too.

Welcome to the heart of Cape Breton Island – Baddeck – a delight in any season

Open year round, our cozy housekeeping cottages and our executive guesthouse are a wonderful spot to soak in the million dollar view of the Bras d’Or Lakes, while sipping refreshments from your private covered verandah.

Located just two miles from the start of the Cabot Trail, these cottages and guesthouse at the centre of Cape Breton Island are perfect for the many day trips that have become synonymous with the Cape Breton experience. Travel the Island, and come home to a beer, a barbecue, and a bonfire – an August evening to remember. Our January guests can cuddle in front of a cheery fire, with their skis or snowmobile parked beside the cottage. Groomed trails to the highlands.

McIntyre’s Cottages and Cameron House is located on the Trans-Canada Highway five kilometers west of the Village of Baddeck—the beginning and end of the world famous Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Each property has a panoramic view of the Bras d’Or Lakes, Canada’s ‘inland sea’.
